moncler jackets and fashion photography. They really just show
Capturing australia in black and white Photographer max dupain is famous for his
images of australians on the beach. His photo of the sunbaker showing a man's
upper torso lying in the sand, head rested on his arm and water beads glistening
in the sunshine is perhaps one of the most iconic australian photographs ever
captured. But as well as snapping australians at play at the seaside, max also
turned his camera lens to industry, architecture, and mens moncler inland australia, taking
on commissions for the commonwealth government's department of information in
the post war years. Some of those images form a national archives of australia
travelling exhibition, 'max dupain on assignment' which is on display at the
gippsland art gallery in sale. National archives curator tracey clarke says many
of the photos taken by dupain during this era were used by the government to
encourage migration to australia. "They were tasked with taking photographs to
promote australia to overseas for potential migrants to migrate over here.Dupain
took photographs around australia to capture moncler men the essence of australian
life to entice migration to australia during that time. "There's a great quote
that he made about what his philosophy was behind his approach to documentary
photography. He said;'Let one see and photograph Australia's way of life as it
is, not as one would wish it to be'. "I think that you can see that in the
photographs that he has taken. They are not glossed over like in advertising
photography, moncler jackets and
fashion photography. They really just show the simplicity of australian life
during the 1940s and the natural beauty of the australian landscape during that
time,"Ms clarke says. She says the dupain photographs are a significant part of
the archives' photography collection. "It's unexpected to find these sorts of
photographs in the archives collection, you just sort of associate the national
archives with bureaucratic files, not necessarily artistic works and yet here
they are. "What i really like about the photographs is that dupain, even though
he was taking these photographs for a business purpose and they were to document
essentially the business activities of a company they have this really
aesthetic, artistic quality to them. They are quite distinct to some of the more
typical government photographs that don't have that aesthetic quality. " All of
the photographs are printed in black and white, dupain's choice of palette. "Max
dupain preferred to photograph in black and white and i think that's because he
really wanted to highlight and accentuate the line and the light and shade and
form of his subjects. To do that in colour, you wouldn't have the same results,
you wouldn't be able to have that same degree of contrast between light and dark
and being able to show off the moncler
shoes angles of unusual buildings. It wouldn't have had the same impact in
colour. "
